Elections on November 3 - Change Begins at the Local Level - Vote O'Connell for Somerset County Freeholder

Many are dissatisfied with the chaotic state on Capitol Hill as political parties bicker over matters that affect all citizens and inaction seems to be the order of the day. The Republican party remains fractured, with various factions scrambling for superiority and continuing to support special interests, such as the gun lobby and continued challenges to the Affordable Care Act, also known as Obamacare.  These divisions are threatening our governmental system.

Almost 40 years of Republican domination in Somerset County also suggests it's time to return to a system of checks and balances that results from two-party rule.  It's time for change on the local level so that all citizens of the county are represented.

That's why Patrick O'Connell and Brian Regan are running for seats on the Board of Chosen Freeholders.

"We need to provide affordable higher education for our young people, reining in tuition rates and assuring financial aid that makes college more affordable for all who want to attend," O'Connell said.
He also believes Somerset County must ensure that our most vulnerable citizens are afforded the public health and mental health support they need to lead happy and productive lives.  If elected, O'Connell will work to improve and expand health clinics and promote mental health education and outreach.
"We also need to upgrade our roads, develop a workable plan to complete the road to nowhere in Hillsborough and offer better transportation options that save energy, cut pollution and allow citizens to work and shop conveniently within the county," O'Connell said.
Let your voice be heard on November 3.  Exercise your rights by voting for change at the local level in the next election.  Vote Democratic - Regan and O'Connell for Somerset County Freeholders.

Regan, O'Connell Are Democratic Candidates for Seats on Somerset County Board of Chosen Freeholders; Vow Transparency, Fresh Approach to County Projects

Brian Regan and Patrick O'Connell are running for seats on Somerset County Board of Chosen Freeholders to bring greater transparency and to give every resident a voice on the county level.  The Board has been run by one party for too long.  As Democrats, they'll fight for common-sense policies that support Somerset County families,  towns and the health of its most vulnerable, while keeping taxes in check.

We'll make an important difference for Somerset County by bringing fresh ideas that provide a new perspective on our transportation, health and educational issues.   One way is to focus our energies on developing more public-private partnerships that will help fund projects that are languishing due to state and county budget cuts.

Vote on November 3 because it's your right to participate.  Vote for us on November 3rd because change begins at the local level.

Pat O'Connell's Commitment to Government Started at the American Legion's Jersey Boys State

This is not the first time Patrick O’Connell has run for freeholder.  As a 17-year old Junior selected to represent Immaculata High School in Somerville at the American Legion Jersey Boys State convention at Rider University in the year 2001, Patrick soaked in a week of hands-on government and civics lessons, learning the political process that culminated in mock state and county elections.

Pat ran for county freeholder among the Boys State delegates and won a seat on the Board of Chosen Freeholders.  And from that point he was committed to making government better, while keeping the political process dignified.

His love for government and politics continued as he became involved in Rutgers College student government, becoming a representative and then Vice President of the Junior Class.  He was accepted into  the Honors Program at Rutgers Eagleton Insitute of Politics and has continued service to his community, serving on the Franklin Township Planning Board for two years and helping to run voter registration drives in the community.

As a Democratic candidate for the Somerset County Board of Chosen Freeholders, Pat will continue to fight for residents, bringing transparency to county government and seeking to improve health, transportation and education issues, while keeping costs and taxes in check.
