This is not the first time Patrick O’Connell has run for
freeholder. As a 17-year old Junior
selected to represent Immaculata High School in Somerville at the American
Legion Jersey Boys State convention at Rider University in the year 2001,
Patrick soaked in a week of hands-on government and civics lessons, learning
the political process that culminated in mock state and county elections.
Pat ran for county freeholder among the Boys State delegates and won a seat on the Board of Chosen Freeholders. And from that point he was committed to making government better, while keeping the political process dignified.
His love for government and politics continued as he became involved in Rutgers College student government, becoming a representative and then Vice President of the Junior Class. He was accepted into the Honors Program at Rutgers Eagleton Insitute of Politics and has continued service to his community, serving on the Franklin Township Planning Board for two years and helping to run voter registration drives in the community.
As a Democratic candidate for the Somerset County Board of Chosen Freeholders, Pat will continue to fight for residents, bringing transparency to county government and seeking to improve health, transportation and education issues, while keeping costs and taxes in check.
